A Real Free Fur All!
To those in the animal rescue community, the upcoming months are known as “kitten season.” At this time each year unaltered cats begin breeding. Of course, breeding can occur at other times; but it’s the approaching warm weather that shifts the process into high gear. Soon “Free Kittens” signs will dot community roadways, and the stream of calls from cat owners with kittens to place will flood animal rescue organizations. This year CCA has a plan to help stem the tide of these unwanted births.
With funding received under the condition it be used specifically for spaying and neutering, Concerned Citizens for Animals is launching March Madness, an initiative to reduce the number of unwanted births during this year’s kitten season. This initiative will allow cat owners to have their domesticated cats spayed or neutered FREE. Of course, our funding is limited, so applications will be processed on a first-come-first-served basis. Even with restricted funds, this project will mean hundreds, if not thousands, of kittens will not be born only to end up in already overcrowded shelters, given to anyone who will take one, or roaming the streets unaltered, themselves breeding within months.
March Madness will put spaying and neutering within everyone’s reach. No more excuses! If you know of someone who would benefit from this assistance, please provide an application. If transportation is an issue, offer a ride. We all know there’s a problem. Now we can all be part of the solution!
